We found out yesterday that we have a niece on the way! My sister is coming to visit next week, and we're hosting a shower, so it was kind of fun to find out that it's a girl before the big event. My Frenchy's senses were tingling when I drove by today (I'm only half-joking) so I popped in for a minute to see what there was to find. I bought this super-fun set of candlesticks, which I think I will put pink candles in and line up on the table.
Do you have any fantastic shower suggestions? It will be in the evening, and will be pretty low-key. Lots of chatting and visiting and eating. But I'm thinking that some simple things like these would be cute and non-tacky.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Congratulations to your sister! :) How fun for P to have a cousin to play with soon.
Boy, my creativity quotient lands in the negative range when it comes to parties. But, I recently attended one which had a couple of fun games: one had all the guests bring in their baby photo and one person arranges them randomly, but numbered on the table. All the guests then have to guess which photo is which guest. Another game had people using fabric markers create their own art on a blank, white onesie (of varying sizes so that the baby will not outgrow all of them at once), and the mom-to-be can choose a winner (my friend, who didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, threw them in a bag and pulled a winner out at random).
I just stumbled across this blog post right after I commented here:

CL did a great shower menu last year (June-ish?) with recipes for little sandwiches and non-alcoholic punch and awesome cookies (I can definitely vouch for the cookies!). Let me know, I'm sure I could find a copy if you're interested.
And for something more involved, I heard a great scrapbooking party/shower idea recently: each guest makes a page for the baby book, all ready to be filled in with photos and info once baby arrives. It's a nice present for mom, and keeps everyone busy without having to resort to playing the clothespin game. (Not that I don't love it, but...)
I can't wait to see what you end up doing!
oh how wonderful...i love the drinks idea.
buy a new white pillowcase and provide sharpie markers(color theme if desired) and have the guests sign and add "advice/well wishes" on the case for the mom-to-be to use...
affirmation/encouragement cards to read during those non sleeping times...provide pretty notecards and a small basket...(long distance friends can participate in this) I still have mine...somewhere~

Hi Sherrie, Sounds like fun! I just had a shower recently, and we didn't play any games or anything (it was nice and low-key, just the way I like it!) but we did have little sandwiches with the crusts cut off, which is a huge treat for someone like me who grew up in Victoria, and went to "high tea" for special occasions. I think any little personal touches will be greatly appreciated, but the main thing is to enjoy yourself. I love those juice bottles, by the way! They would be perfect with pink lemonade :)
Also - I can't believe that sewing machine was only $40! Is it on sale at Superstore right now? I don't think I've ever seen a sewing machine in a grocery store?!?
As the mama in question I'll say only this -- there must be egg salad sandwiches! I have a theory that a wedding/baby shower has never been held without them. I think it's in the shower constitution. ;)
I have this notion that since I love to bake I'll make some cute homemade sweets to bring, but that's probably a little ambitious since we don't have a lot of time at home. I think Mom's idea of Superstore trays is a likelier bet!
PS, is Donna Hay a Martha Stewart rip-off? The fonts and colors on the site look like they were lifted directly from MS Living!
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I think it will be fun. I just wish I had more time to prepare!
Lauren, the table was $40 at the Superstore, not the machine. :)
Marla, Donna Hay is the Australian Martha. Similar, but Donna is almost exclusively food stuff, whereas Martha is gardening and crafts and such, too.
How about a pamper party for the mama-to-be. I have done this for numerous showers and pamper the mom or bride with pedicure or massage ~ her choice. Barb
PPS, love the candlesticks!
