disappearing act

I posted this picture on my other blog a few days ago, but thought I would ask you guys, too - what can I make with cardamom? Any ideas, other than chai tea?

I had a very "fun-day", as Phillip says. You can read a bit about it over here. I'll be back with pictures and stories and a wickedly wicked fantastic Frenchy's find that is green and goes on my feet. Since she was with me (or I was with her and my luck oozed out), Ingrid also found something great.

I'm scooting to Halifax (not literally) for a couple days for work, so I'll be back soon. Speaking of Halifax, my soaps are now at Love, Me Boutique! I'm hoping to stop in for myself. If you're in the city, have a peek.

Have a great week!

I only use them for homemade chai myself. I love Love Me Boutique, they have awesome stuff there. Have a fun few days in Halifax. Isn't La shoppe verte soooooo great :-) I'm only 10 minutes from there.

I will have to check out the Love Me Boutique. I always avoid downtown since I became a Mommy. The lack of parking with kids in tow is just a bad combination. I'll put it on my list for a "free day" in the future.

Hi Sherrie, I happen to know this Ayurvedic "tea", called Golden Milk. It tastes good and is also good for your health they say. Here it is:

Recipe: 1/8 teaspoon turmeric, 3 cardamom pods (optional), 1/4 cup water. Simmer 5 to 7 minutes, then add : 1 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons almond oil (cold pressed). Bring just to the boiling point (but do not boil). Add honey or maple syrup to taste. Sip slowly as a hot tea.

By the way, I love the soaps I got from you. Peppermint is still my very favorite! :)

We bought a huge bag of it last year to make some Middle Eastern dish, but darned if I can remember what it was that we made. I'll have to check with dh or my sister...I hate my bad memory.

Have fun in Halifax, and congrats on your soaps being carried at the Love, Me Boutique!

Hm, what about cardamom-spiced shortbread? It's also good in a sachet for mulled cider or wine (how very Christmas in April!). Might also be good in rice pudding, or creme brulee?

Have fun in Halifax. I am very intrigued by tales of Love, Me. Can't wait to see it in person.

I was browsing for recipes for granola, and when I saw this one I thought of your post. They are cardamom granola bars, and they sound yummy.

"Cardamom and honey give these bars an exotic flavor. Pecans can easily be substituted for the walnuts if you prefer."

2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
6 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons honey

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Line a 9-inch square pan with foil, extending the foil over the sides.
3. Grease the foil with shortening or butter.
4. Mix the first 4 ingredients in a bowl.
5. Heat the butter, brown sugar and honey in a saucepan until the butter melts and begins to boil.
6. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and mix until well coated. Transfer to the prepared pan and press evenly with a spatula.
7. Bake about 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
8. Cool on rack. Using the foil, lift out of the pan and place on cutting board. Cut into 18 bars.
9.Taste,photograph, and post on blog to let everyone know if they are worth making.

I had to add in number 9 :)

I know, I know, you wanted other than chai tea. But I wanted to share my recipe anyway.

1 Tbsp rooibos
4 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
4 peppercorns
4 cardamom seeds (I cut them in half - dunno if this is proper)
few drops vanilla
few slices ginger
a bit of something sweet (maple syrup? honey? brown sugar?)

boil it all in lots of water, continue simmering and adding water all day as I drink it up yum.

Yes, you should add milk, but we can't do that 'round these parts. For a while there I was adding chocolate soy milk, which was too-die-for yummy. But I was drinking to the bottom of the carton far too quickly for my hips to keep up!
